Hello there all you AMIGA fans.
Here are some pictures from my 256 colour 640x512 Workbench.
My Workbench will soon be changed in 1024x768 in 24-bit colour. I have ordered a
BlizzardPPC/160MHz with a full 68040/25MHz and a BlizzardVisionPPC.
This Workbench will be sent to my second AMIGA 1200 which I still have to get.
Let's sum up my existing hardware:
- AMIGA 1200 (AMIGA Technologies) in an Infinitiv Tower
- matching Infinitiv keyboard case (I have an AMIGA, so no PC keyboard for me)
- Western Digital 2.5 GB harddisk (still the best brand)
- 12x speed Vuego CD-ROM player
- ScanMagic scandoubler with flicker fixer
- Proton 15 inch SVGA monitor
- Power Flyer
- Blizzard 1230 IV 50 MHz turbo card + 68882 co-processor
- Blizzard SCSI-KIT IV SCSI upgrade card
- 2 x 32 MB EDO SIMM giving me 64 MB of fast memory
Hardware that I have waiting for a second AMIGA 1200:
- 1081 AMIGA monitor
- 4x speed PCMCIA external CD-ROM player
- 2 x 850 MB Western Digital harddisk
- 8 MB EDO SIMM
- 16 MB EDO SIMM
When I get my new turbo card and video card the Blizzard 1230 combination will also
go on the waiting list execpt the 64 MB. As you can see I am then only an AMIGA 1200
away from a second setup.
My workbench consists of several patches to increase speed and flexibility. I also use several
add ons to increase the looks of the system. Here folows a long list.
- NewWPA8 Aminet Set 5a (speedup patch)
- FWB Aminet Set 6a (speedup patch)
- HappyENV AFCD/System (speedup patch)
- RainBoot 2 Aminet Set 7a (bootpicture + sound + anim)
- Visual Prefs Aminet Set 7a (configure look of WorkBench)
- FastIPrefs AFCD 37 (better IPrefs)
- MagicWB
- MUI
- Magic MENU AFCD/System (use menu everywhere on the screen)
- MUIWBPattern Aminet Set 4a (random backgrounds)
- StartMenu 2 Aminet Set 4a (like it says)
- Magic Startmenu Aminet Set 5b (icons in MagicWB style for StartMenu2)
- Swaz Info AFCD/System (better icon information)
- Multi CX AFCD/System (you can't live without it)
- Executive AFCD/System (streamline multitasking)
- WBStartUp+ AFCD/System (Better WBStartup)
- AHI AFCD/System
- ClassACT CUCD 7 + 18 and on Aminet (requestor enhancer)
- Reqtools Aminet Set 5a (requestor enhancer)
- Reqchange Aminet Set 5a (requestor enhancer)
- Background pictures Aminet Set 7b/pix/back/TUBBB64.lha
I still have a lot I would like to add which benefits to my system.
So here is a small to do list:
- Workbench 3.5
- Directory Opus Magellan 2
- Clock Up 4 way clock port expander
- Prelude 1200 or Melody 1200
- IOBlix 1200 serial
- IOBlix 1200 parallel
- Hydra PCMCIA Ethernet card
- Maybe a modem and Internet
- AMIGA 1200
- Graffiti video card
Whether I keep using MagicWB or replace it with NewIcons depends on how both of them look
on a 1024x768 24-bit screen.
I hope that OS 3.5 apears soon. If AMIGA Inc. did their job properly, there won't be any
need for patches anymore and everything up to the core of the OS should work better and faster
without any slow code or faults.
As you can see I have 5 partitions. Workbench is for anything that has something to do with
the OS. Harddisk is used for games. Work is used for programs. Usage is used for downloading,
testing, unpacking and that sort of things. And Files is used for modules, animations, documents
and that sort of things.
I created a seperate partition Usage to keep the other partitions clean and optimized. Also when
something goes wrong formatting isn't a problem because it's just a test partition.
I created some of my own stickers and put them on my tower. I did that with an A4 sticker
paper and printed it with my Epson Stylus 600. The stickers are from the SASG site (MagicWB
and MUI) and from Phase 5. I also have one that says 68040 inside (from Aminet Set). I also put
those stickers on my keyboard and monitor.
Keep the AMIGA alive. Buy AMIGA Format. Buy Quake. Give Clickboom the confidence to make a
port of Quake 2. The Permedia 2 chip on the new video cards from Phase 5 and the VooDoo add-on
for the Picasso together with the PowerPC would make it a great game to say to the gaming world
that the AMIGA is back. There isn't any other game that would say that.
If you want some great looking back ground pictures, look on Aminet Set 7b in the same directory
mentioned above. Those pictures are great, but only for 24-bit screens. But with the new
Blizzard PPC/ BVision combination that shouldn't be a problem.
I still have to register a lot of shareware. The only two I have registered so far are
MagicWB and MUI. But as I am only a student and already put almost all that low amount
of cash that I have in my AMIGA and have a priority in buying new hardware, it will
probably take some time. Buying games or serious software isn't easy too. Hardware doesn't
come cheap on the AMIGA you know. But I am probably not the only one that has that problem.
Well till about a month or two. I then will be submitting my new Workbench screen shots
